Great book! A must read for all the rock fans out there!

Ten years ago, Motley Crue’s bestselling The Dirt—penned with rock chronicler extraordinaire Neil Strauss—set a new bar for rock ’n’ roll memoirs. A genuine cultural phenomenon, this turbocharged blockbuster, with more than half a million copies in print, is now available in this deluxe, slipcased hardcover edition, timed to celebrate thirty wild years with rock’s most infamous band.

This autobiography strongly resembles the Aerosmith book “Walk This Way” from a few years ago. You start out with the band’s early days of non-stop partying, drugs, and chicks, and it’s like the fun never stops. Then the story gets darker as the drugs take their toll and everyone loses their friends, money, and careers (at least temporarily). This pattern is clearly evident in the Motley Crue book, and to an even more extreme level than Aerosmith. The debauchery of the early years is truly excessive and explosive. If you love to act that way yourself, or do it vicariously by reading about the exploits of others, then you’ll love those portions of this book. The only drawback is lurid descriptions of degrading things being done to women.

When the darkness sets in, I was surprised by the senstive and emotional writing of the guys in the band. Mick Mars (an extremly funny guy) discusses his painful bone disease that will probably lead to his early demise, Nikki Sixx (who’s more intelligent than I imagined) talks about his traumatic childhood and family life, and Tommy Lee (a real sweetheart) includes his letters to Pamela from prison and shows a deep love for his sons. The most moving part of the book is when Vince Neil (who I don’t think is a very cool person otherwise) discusses the death of his four-year old daughter from cancer, and how it changed his entire outlook on life.

This book also avoids the pitfalls of many biographies (and history books) by covering all time periods equally, instead of ignoring recent history at the expense of the glorified good old days. There’s good coverage of the band’s years with temporary singer John Corabi, and their recent not-so-glamorous struggles with the changing musical landscape. The only problem in this regard is the lack of dates and specific historical information, if you’re the type that wants to know exactly when things happened. Otherwise, this was an extremely entertaining book, covering the expected rock star excesses with a surprising amount of realism and sensitivity. Good for both Crue fans and general rock fans alike.

There is also a movie coming in 2013.

The other fun thing about Camatasia Studio 7 is that it’s very easy to use. You can add music to your videos and transitions between scenes with a simple mouse click. You don’t need to be a computer geek to enjoy using it.

This was a new marketing approach and it really caught my attention. It actually got me to watch the movie which means it did its job successfully! About the movie, it’s a pretty good movie. The story line is good and the acting is well performed. It has a good cast and the special effects are also very well done. For a J.J. Abrams movie it’s very good! It’s a science fiction movie, with aliens and military secrecy based in the 60′s.

I highly recommend it on a quiet Sunday evening if you can enjoy some Science-fiction in your living room.

When the new iOS 5 came out on the iPhone, it brought us a bunch of new features. One of these features was the free use of 5Gb on the iCloud server for each of us. The iCloud is a virtual hard drive on the servers of Apple where we can backup important information from our iPhone, such as contacts, apps, pictures, emails, files and other goodies.

Now one of the most anticipated features was PhotoStream. What PhotoStream does is that it backs up ALL the pictures that you take with your iPhone on iCloud. They will be kept on the cloud for 30 days in case you lose your phone, or you have to delete all data on it. On top of this, it will sync the pictures on the cloud with your Mac. If you don’t have a don’t panic, there is an iCloud software for windows that will do the job to perfection. You can find it here, it’s called the iCloud Control Panel for Windows.

One you have this installed, if you’re not on a Mac, you need to setup two folders for PhotoStream to work. One is named called “My Photo Stream” and the other “Upload“. Both folder will be under a main
folder called “Photo Stream”. Under Windows you can probably find them in your “Images” folder.

All images you put in the “Upload” folder will be synced with the cloud and then uploaded to your iPhone. This is quite simple.

Now, keep in mind that the flow of pictures is a one way flow from the cloud to the “My Photo Stream” folder and a double way flow from the Cloud to the Iphone.

Every think on the cloud is synced to with the iPhone and vice versa. But the pictures in “My Photo Stream” on the computer will not go to the iCloud server, except the ones from the “Upload” folder.

Now the main issue with this is that we can’t delete the pictures we’ve taken with the Iphone anymore. False! YES WE CAN! Here is how:

First, you need to make sure the pictures are synced between your computer and iPhone. Then, go to your iPhone and disable the PhotoStream function from “Settings/Photos/PhotoStream” – On/Off.

When you turn it OFF it will ask you if you want to delete all the pictures in the “PhotoStream” folder on the iPhone. Say YES, Delete them! Don’t worry, you have them on the computer, remember?

Now go to iCloud.com and login. Click on your name in the top right corner. Go to advanced settings and there you will have the option to “Clear your PhotoStream“. CLICK IT! This will delete all the pictures saved on the Cloud.

You can now go and reactivate your “PhotoStream” function on the iPhone and it will not download the pictures from the cloud cause there the cloud is empty….

You should now have all the pics saved on your computer in the “My Photo Stream” folder as well as in your “Camera Roll” on the iPhone. You can now sort, delete, or keep the pictures. I personally take the time to do this at least once every two weeks but it depends on how many pictures you take.

You will first need a Virtualization Software such as VMware or VirtualBox to run your Mac OS X under. I personally use Vmware Workstation 7.1.3 since I got a full licence. Once again, you don’t have to pay for it… you can get a working copy on torrent sites such as TPB or MiniNova.

Once you have your VMware installed, you will need a VMware image of the Mac OS X. There are plenty of them on the internet, again you can find them on TPB. But here comes the tricky part. Due to the “special” needed hardware to run Mac OS you will need a computer with a new version processor that supports hardware virtualization. Just before buying one of these processors and going through the trouble of changing it on my laptop, I found out that I can bypass the hardware virtualization request in VMware.

Ok, to do this you will need a VMware patch to bypass the hardware virtualization. Once you have this, you can unzip the file. The executable will look for the VMware executable file. WARNING: If you are under Windows x64, you will need to patch the executable under the [x64] folder under : “ProgramFiles/VMWare/x64/….exe” else it will not work.
